Biomimetics and bioinspiration play a crucial role in underwater robotics, one of the most challenging areas to explore due to the nature of the environment and, at the same time, a field in which to invest research activities to cope with various essential and fascinating issues.<br class=""> </div><div class=""><b class="">Short bio:<br class=""></b>Gianluca Manduca is a PhD student at The BioRobotics Institute of Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, Pisa. Gianluca graduated in Automation and Control Engineering at Politecnico di Milano; before embarking on his Ph.D. path, he spent a period as a visiting scholar at Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, USA. The background in automation and control formed during the course of studies initially contributed to the automotive sector, with work related to autonomous driving and lithium-ion battery modeling. Currently, Gianluca deals with bio-robotic systems and bio-sensors managed through artificial intelligence techniques, with application to submarine robots and environmental monitoring.</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">Best regards,</div><div class=""> Jorge Lobo.</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class=""><br class=""></div><br class=""><div class="">
