Dear All,
you are invited to the assist to the seminar "Home Furniture Detection by Autonomous Service Robots: From Metrical to Cognitive Mapping” by Prof. António Marín Hernandez from the University Veracruzana in Xapapa - Mexico, at 2pm on 21 October 2016 in ISR auditorium.
Abstract:
Service Robots begin to be more present on daily human activities. However, to provide efficient services; robots and humans need to understand each other. In order to provide robots with same capabilities as humans; they need to begin understanding the environment, not only as isolated obstacles or objects, but as objects with relations and uses in human context. In this talk, it will be presented some of the research works done at the Universidad Veracruzana and in collaboration with other groups, to begin to deal with these kinds of problems. Home Furniture Detection is the first step on this direction. Taking advantage of 3D sensors mobile robots can extract many information that need to be processed in real-time in order to provide robust algorithms for robots. Some of the latest results will be presented.
Short Bio: Antonio Marin-Hernandez is a researcher-professor at the Research Center on Artificial intelligence of the Universidad Veracruzana in Xalapa, Mexico. He received the Ph.D. degree in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence in 2004 by the INPT-LAAS-CNRS (France). His main research topics include: Mobile robotics, autonomous navigation, human-robot interaction, dynamic systems and optimization.
Kind regards,
Paulo Menezes
