Job description

The Institute of Systems and Robotics - University of Coimbra (ISR-UC) opens a tender (scholarship) for the award of one (1) Research Grant (BI) for Master in the framework of the Scientific Research and Development Project (I&D) AI+Green - “Intelligent Automation in Precise Agriculture”, with the reference MIT-EXPL/TDI/0029/2019, funded by the FCT under the 2019 MIT Portugal Program.

Scientific Area: Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Biomedical Engineering, or related courses.

Admission Requirements: PhD students or, alternatively, master students enrolled in non-degree course may apply. Candidates must have a Master’s degree in electrical and Computer Engineering, or Computer Engineering, or Physical Engineering, Mathematics, or Biomedical Engineering, or similar degree programs. 
Candidates should have good knowledge of Matlab and/or Python programming. Solid know-how in Machine learning are desirable, as well as good spoken and written English skills.

Work Plan: Research and development activities will be carried out in the areas:
-	machine learning (eg, CNNs, probabilistic inference using DBN)
-	UAV and satellite imagery processing
The work plan is strongly related to the Project’s tasks UAV/drone remote sensing (T2) and AI-ML probabilistic information-fusion (T3).

Amount of monthly maintenance allowance: The amount of the scholarship corresponds to 1074,64 €, according to the table of values of the scholarships awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in the Country (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores.phtml.pt)

Scholarship duration: The scholarship will last for 6 months, with the possibility of renewal during the duration of the respective project, which is scheduled to end on 31st January 2022 according to the grantee's performance, on an exclusive basis, according to FCT's advanced human resources training regulation.

Formalization of applications: Applications should be sent in pdf format to the following email addresses, lara at isr.uc.pt and patricia.almeida at isr.uc.pt, putting in the subject of the email: AI+Green-BI-1. The following documentation must be submitted: (1) Curriculum Vitae (CV), (2) certificate of qualifications including breakdown of the grades obtained in the subjects of the respective course and final grade, and (3) letter of motivation. 
The CV should include: (i) contact information, (ii) academic, (iii) list of scientific publications, (iv) main projects where the applicant has participated, (v) other information considered relevant. Applicants with foreign academic degrees must present Certificate of Recognition in accordance with applicable law.

Deadline for application: The submission is open from 18th February 2021 to 01st March 2021.

Workplace: The work will be developed at the facilities of the Institute of Systems and Robotics - Coimbra (ISR-Coimbra), under the scientific supervision of Prof. Cristiano Premebida and Prof. Urbano Nunes.

Selection methods: The selection method comprises: CV evaluation, with a value of 50% for academic qualifications and 50% for the degree of satisfaction of knowledge and experience requirements for the project. If the Jury deems it necessary, an interview may be held with the candidates placed in the first three positions according to the ordering resulting from the previous criteria. In this case, the final score will include the curriculum assessment (as described above), valued at 80%, and the interview, valued at 20%. If none of the candidates has the appropriate profile (overall assessment below 60%), the scholarship will not be awarded.
