Itecons and ISR - University of Coimbra are jointly promoting the talk
*"Known and suspected effects of electromagnetic fields on biological
systems"*, by *Dr. Lars Ole Fichte*, that will take place *online at
11:00, 15 October 2021*. Attendance is free.

The online session will take place on Zoom.

/The talk is an approximately 45 min presentation, followed by a live
Q&A session./

/*Abstract*//*:*/
The use of mobile communication and social media has become an integral
part of today's society. The steadily increasing volume of data leads to
changes in the information transmission, which is achieved less by a
higher dose of electromagnetic irradiation than by a changing the signal
structure and its transmission on other, more suitable frequencies.
Under various buzzwords like "intelligent household appliances",
"internet of things or "industry 4.0", wireless communication is being
integrated into other areas of everyday life and offers a new, more
convenient alternative to use data. Anyway, since various modern
innovations (e.g. x-rays) which were greeted enthusiastically by the
public have later-on lead to negative consequence on health, the
widespread use on electromagnetic signals has always been under close
scrutiny. In this talk, several known and suspected effects of
electromagnetic fields on biological systems will be presented and
discussed, including an explanation of the physical laws that the
effects are based on.

Lars Ole Fichte finished his PhD on solving low frequency eddy current
problems with a semi-analytical method combining separation and boundary
integral methods in 2007 and has been working as a researcher at Helmut
Schmidt University since. His research interest include (but are not
limited to) precise measurement of electromagnetic fields in EMC test
setups, primarily Reverberation chambers, statistical investigations on
EMC field tests and the interaction of RF range fields with biological
tissue. He is the Chairman of German URSI commission K, a senior member
of EMC society, and works with various standardization committee, such
as IEC SC77.
