Industry 4.0 – are we there yet?

Synopsis
Industry 4.0 entered the jargon of software and technology vendors in 2013 and has never slowed down. Since this is a revolution that is anticipated but does not yet exist, it is important to know the main associated concepts, and how they differ from those of previous revolutions. The lecture will therefore deal with how they emerged and what are the core concepts of a factory of the future, and on the technologies that, applied to industrial processes, will allow the achievement of that future. In addition, it will focus on the economic impact of this revolution, with particular emphasis on the impact on the technology labor market.

Speaker's short bio
Francisco Almada Lobo holds a MBA (2004) and an Electrical Engineering degree (1996) from University of Porto, having started his career in a Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) R&D institute in the 1990s. He joined Siemens Semiconductor in 1997 and led the first migration of a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) in a running high-volume facility in 2004. Between 2005 and 2009, he managed the Porto Development Center for Infineon and Qimonda, with implementation of automation projects in the group plants worldwide. In 2009, he co-founded Critical Manufacturing, being the company CEO since 2010. He holds various positions within the smart manufacturing and venture capital industries, including being a Member of the 200M Fund's Investment Committee, Advisory Board at Critical Ventures, Executive Committee Member of SEMI Smart Manufacturing Technology, Member of the Forbes Technology Council and Advisor to many Industry 4.0 startups.
