Call for research fellowships for students under the cultural.heritage project 

Scholarship: 2 (Two) Research Grants for Students (BIC)

The Systems and Robotics Institute - University of Coimbra (ISR-UC) opens the call for  applications for two (2) Research Grants for Students (BIC) in the scope of the Project  Cultural.Heritage, with reference number Cultural.Heritage.1.

 

Scientific Area: Electrical and Computers Engineering

 

Work Plan: The selected candidates will work on the automatic detection and segmentation of buildings of interest (eg. convents, monasteries, churches, cathedrals) in aerial images, with the intention of helping in the preservation of the cultural heritage, using machine learning techniques. The work plan comprises the following tasks: 1) Study of machine learning techniques and the state of the art in the detection and segmentation of building of interest from aerial images 2) Building of a dataset of images for training 3) Implementation of a deep learning technique able to learn how to detect and segment building of interest 4) Comparison with the state of the art 5) Publishing a paper and writing a report
