O European Research Council divulgou, esta semana, as datas indicativas das
próximas calls ERC-2024, assim como algumas alterações ao processo de
avaliação das candidaturas ERC. Relembramos que a atividade fundamental do
ERC é fornecer financiamento atrativo e de longo prazo para apoiar
investigadores/as de excelência e as suas equipas para investigação de alto
risco / alto ganho que promovam um avanço no conhecimento em qualquer
domínio científico. 

Agradecemos a divulgação pronta desta oportunidade aos investigadores e às
investigadoras da sua Unidade I&D. Declarações de interesse para todas as
calls de 2024 são bem-vindas.

O European Research Council divulgou, esta semana, as datas indicativas das
próximas calls ERC-2024.  

Adicionalmente, as seguintes alterações serão implementadas na avaliação de
propostas ERC de 2024: 

*       Avaliação da investigação - foco no projeto: As candidaturas a
bolsas ERC continuarão a ser avaliadas tendo como único critério a
excelência científica. Os painéis do ERC avaliarão principalmente a natureza
inovadora, a ambição e a viabilidade do projeto de investigação. Ao mesmo
tempo, eles avaliarão a capacidade intelectual, a criatividade e o
comprometimento do/a candidato/a a investigador/a principal, com foco na
medida em que o/a candidato/a possui a excelência e o conhecimento
científico necessário para executar com sucesso o projeto proposto.  

*       Avaliação geral do/a candidato/a: O Programa de Trabalhos do ERC
para as calls de 2024 vai deixar de incluir perfis prescritivos detalhados
dos/as investigadores/as principais. No template, o Curriculum Vitae e o
Track Record serão combinados num único documento de até quatro páginas. 

*       Procedimento de avaliação: Nas calls para as Starting, Consolidator
e Advanced Grants, os painéis ERC poderão admitir no máximo 44 propostas
para a etapa 2 da avaliação. Será feita uma distinção na classificação da
etapa 1 entre as propostas que obtiverem a classificação A e forem
convocadas para a etapa 2 da avaliação, e as propostas que obtiverem a
classificação A, mas não classificadas entre as 44 propostas admitidas na
etapa 2. O/a candidato/a cuja proposta obtiver nota A na etapa 1 da
avaliação, mas não for encaminhado para entrevista, poderá apresentar
candidatura nas calls do ano seguinte. 

*       Financiamento de lump sum para Advanced Grants: Os projectos
financiados com a Advanced Grant de 2024 serão concedidos como uma
contribuição única de valor fixo para a totalidade do projeto (lump sum),
por um valor aprovado pelo painel do ERC. O pagamento do montante fixo será
baseado no trabalho realizado e relatado, independentemente dos custos reais
incorridos para o projeto ou do resultado das atividades do projeto.
Financiamento adicional, por exemplo, para comprar equipamentos importantes
ou obter acesso a instalações de investigações, pode ser solicitado e fará
parte do montante fixo. Os/as candidatos/as aprovados/as continuarão a poder
beneficiar da portabilidade, o que significa que poderão solicitar a
transferência da totalidade da sua bolsa, ou parte dela, para um novo
beneficiário, como tem acontecido no âmbito do financiamento baseado nos
custos reais até 2023.

Dear Researcher, 

The European Research Council released, this week, the indicative dates of
the next ERC-2024 calls. 

Additionally, the following changes will be implemented in the proposal
evaluation of ERC 2024 proposals:  

*       Research assessment: focus on the project: The proposals for ERC
grants will continue to be evaluated based on the sole criterion of
scientific excellence. ERC panels will primarily evaluate the
ground-breaking nature, ambition, and feasibility of the research project.
At the same time, they will evaluate the intellectual capacity, creativity,
and commitment of the applicant principal investigator, with a focus on the
extent to which the applicant has the excellence and required scientific
expertise to successfully execute the proposed project. 

*       Broad assessment of the applicant: The ERC Work Programme will no
longer include detailed prescriptive profiles of principal investigators. In
the application, the Curriculum Vitae and Track Record will be merged into
one document of up to four pages. 

*       Evaluation procedure: In Starting, Consolidator and Advanced Grants
calls, ERC panels will be able to admit at most 44 proposals to step 2 of
the evaluation. A distinction in the scoring at step 1 will be made between
proposals obtaining a score of A and invited to step 2 of the evaluation,
and proposals obtaining a score of A but not ranked among the 44 proposals
admitted to step 2. A candidate whose proposal is scored A at step 1 of the
evaluation, but not taken to interview, will be free to submit a proposal in
the following year’s calls. 

*       Lump sum funding in Advanced Grants: 2024 Advanced Grants will be
awarded as a single lump sum contribution for the entirety of the project,
for a sum approved by the ERC panel. The payment of the lump sum will be
based on the work carried out and reported, irrespective of the actual costs
incurred for the project or the successful outcome of the project
activities. Additional funding, for example to purchase major equipment or
get access to research facilities, can be applied for and will be made part
of the lump sum. Successful applicants will still be able to benefit from
portability, meaning that they will be able to request to transfer their
entire grant, or a part of it, to a new beneficiary, as has been the case
under the funding based on the actual costs until 2023.
