Developments in artificial intelligence (AI) have dramatically changed our daily lives and have assumed a promising role in medicine and healthcare. The application of AI to the medical systems is already a reality and has become crucial for the diagnostic, assistance and therapeutics advancement. The potential of AI in medicine is not limited to task automation, it is also an opportunity to move towards more precise and supported care. Examples of this shift are AI applications for decision support systems, minimally invasive surgeries, and intelligent assistive and therapeutic technologies. However, a multitude of challenges still remains in order to bring AI’s full potential into medicine and healthcare.
In this special session, an overview of the current AI applications in the medical field, with emphasis on diagnostic, assistive and therapeutic technologies, will be presented, and the faced challenges discussed.

##Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Intelligent Diagnostic Systems
- Intelligent Assistive Technologies
- Intelligent Therapeutic Technologies
- AI in Orthosis and Prosthetics
- Computational intelligence methodologies for AI application in medicine
